A Replacement for the Default Pocket Internet Explorer Home Page

Introduction

The default home page on all Pocket PCs is pretty lame. You can go to the built-in AvantGo client and to three or four other pre-defined locations, and that’s about it. Having an assortment of locations quickly available without having to use the Favorites dialog is important to me, so I set out to create a new Start Page for my Pocket PC that was both attractive and functional.

The screenshots below show the results of my work. There is a brief description of each tab next to its screenshot and a more in-depth description of the project starts on page two. Page three contains the Theme Gallery and page 4 shows the Revision History. (more…)

What’s on my Pocket PC

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

Occasionally, someone will express enough interest in my Pocket PC to ask what I can do with it or what software I have installed on it. Well, to satisfy that curiosity, I’ve compiled the following list of third-party software which reflects what’s currently installed on my HP iPAQ hx4700 XV6700. I’m not bothering to mention apps that are included as part of the Pocket PC.

List revised on 2007-12-30 (more…)

More spam from Pocket PC Mall

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

I have just received my third unsolicited, opt-out newsletter from PocketPCMall.com after repeated requests to be unsubscribed after receiving the previous two. I’ve just sent an e-mail to them demanding that my address be removed from any and all mailing lists since the automated methods seem to be ineffective, and have requested that my account and its associated Today themes be deleted from PocketThemes. I will not do business with companies who spam me and urge any other Pocket PC users reading this to do the same.

Gilbert Goodmate for Pocket PC

Wednesday, January 7th, 2004

I’ve only seen this reported on one site so far, so I wanted to post this in case anyone reads my site anymore. :D After many delays over the last year or so, Z-Logics has released Gilbert Goodmate PDA v1.00. I played the demo and found it to be a very cool game. The puzzle/challenge in the demo wasn’t too hard to figure out, and Z-Logics really put together a nice stylus-based interface for the game. It makes excellent use of the Pocket PC screen.

The game is available until January 20, 2004 for a special price of US$19.95, after which it will go up to the normal price of US$24.95. It’s at PocketGear now, but they don’t yet have it available at Handango. (I have a couple coupon codes for Handango, so I’m going to wait to buy.) (more…)
