Okay, here are some photos of things other than a spider. You may use these images as you wish, but please give me a credit if you use them publicly or for a project of some kind. I maintain the copyright on all photos on my site unless stated otherwise. Please leave a comment if you have something to say about them!
This first photo is of an unusual mushroom that is growing under a small ornamental tree in the front yard. Not sure what type this is, but it looked kinda neat up close.

More photos…
The next photo could be the worst bicycle helmet disaster I’ve ever seen. But actually it’s a walnut shell left over from a squirrel’s snack.
Finally, a soothing flower photo to end the post. I think it’s an ageratum, but not sure. Whatever it is, it makes for a nice photo!

Nice shots, Dave – I particularly like the first one… Much better than I’ve been able to do!
I think the mushroom belongs to the genus clitocybe. It may be clitocybe clavipes. And, no, I don’t know much of anything about mushrooms. The ‘not-knowing’ bothered me when you said you weren’t sure what type it was
And, once again, the pictures are amazing. Talk about making me drool.
whoops…forgot to say that I spent an hour of my day weeding through google to come up with ‘clitocybe clavipes.’ I’m such a loser. If you don’t mind me asking, how much was your camera?
The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 7600 and cost $350 everywhere I looked online and off. Part of me wishes I got the only slightly more expensive 7900 since it offers more manual control over things. I decided to go with the 7600, however, because it uses AA batteries which are readily available; the 7900 has a built-in rechargeable battery which would, of course, run out at the most inopportune of moments.
It’s a 7.1 megapixel camera and does really good macro shots. Its ability to focus in low light, however, is pretty shitty. There have been many shots that I’ve been unable to get indoors because the camera refuses to focus on anything which is really frustrating. This was mentioned in the review of the 7900 that I read at Digital Photography Review before the purchase, so I was kinda expecting that going in.
That said, I have been very happy with the camera overall. It’s tiny, has an adequate 3X optical zoom, and due to the high res, is capable of really amazing prints. The details it can capture are really amazing and a massive upgrade from the 1.3 MP camera that I had for almost five years before this. (It can also record QuirkTime video with sound with surprisingly good quality. Just make sure you turn the continuous autofocus off because the built-in mic picks up the sound of the motors which focus the lens, which is incredibly annoying.)
nice macros….
Thanks! I took a look at yours, too, and they’re pretty amazing. The ice is very cool! So to speak.
